Flutter developers matched on state management approach, platform targets, and Dart architecture depth

Why Open IT Freelancers

Flutter Hiring Where Architecture Matters

A Flutter developer who only knows widgets cannot build production-grade apps. We screen for Dart depth, architecture patterns, platform integration, and multi-target delivery.

Live Dart & Flutter Technical Screen -- Not a Portfolio Review

Every engineer passes a live technical screen: Dart language depth (async/await, Streams, Isolates, null safety, generics), Flutter widget lifecycle (StatefulWidget vs StatelessWidget, keys, inherited widgets), chosen state management pattern assessed in depth (Bloc events/states, Riverpod providers and scoping, or other approaches), and custom widget and painting performance. We do not accept self-reported 'Flutter experience'.

State Management Depth -- Bloc, Riverpod, and GetX Are Not Interchangeable

A Bloc engineer who thinks in event-driven state machines is not the same as a Riverpod engineer who thinks in provider graphs, which is not the same as a GetX engineer. We match on your existing or preferred state management approach and assess engineers on architectural patterns (Clean Architecture layers, repository pattern, use cases) rather than just widget knowledge.

Multi-Platform Flutter -- iOS, Android, Web, and Desktop

Flutter's multi-platform promise only delivers if engineers understand the constraints of each target: platform channels for native API access on iOS and Android, Flutter Web rendering modes (HTML vs CanvasKit) and SEO limitations, and desktop window management. We distinguish between mobile-only Flutter developers and engineers with genuine multi-platform production experience.

Platform Channel and Native Integration Experience

Most Flutter apps need native integrations at some point -- Bluetooth LE, biometric auth, push notifications, background processing, camera, or payment SDKs. Engineers without platform channel experience (MethodChannel, EventChannel, HostApi) cannot build or maintain these integrations. Platform channel capability is a screening criterion in our technical assessment.

Flat 15% -- No Mobile Agency Markup

Flutter agencies charge $150-250/hr for engineers who cost $60-90/hr. Our fee is a flat 15% on the engineer rate, published in every contract. You see exactly what the engineer earns. There is no matching fee and no cost to receive your shortlist.

Managed Delivery with App Quality Standards

Every engagement includes weekly delivery reports, crash monitoring setup requirements (Firebase Crashlytics), widget and integration test coverage standards, CI/CD pipeline support (Codemagic, Fastlane, GitHub Actions), and a dedicated account manager. You get a managed Flutter team with quality accountability -- not a contractor who disappears after launch.

How It Works

From Brief to Multi-Platform Delivery

Dart-depth-matched shortlisting in 72 hours. Every developer pre-screened on architecture, state management, and production delivery track record.

Submit Your Flutter Project Brief

Tell us your target platforms (iOS, Android, web, desktop, or a combination), your state management preference or existing approach (Bloc, Riverpod, Provider, GetX), the nature of the engagement (greenfield app, feature addition, migration from React Native/native, or architecture refactor), and any native integrations required (Bluetooth, payments, health data, background services).

Takes 5 minutes. No commitment required.

We Match on Dart Depth and Architecture -- Not Just 'Flutter Experience'

A developer who has built a single Flutter to-do app is not in our pool. We match on verified production Flutter experience: shipped apps on App Store or Play Store, specific state management patterns used at scale, platform channel experience where required, and multi-platform targets if relevant. Your brief determines the screening focus.

Shortlist delivered within 72 hours.

Live Dart and Flutter Technical Screen

Every shortlisted developer has passed a live technical assessment: Dart language depth (async programming, Streams, Isolates, null safety), Flutter widget tree and state management (assessed on their claimed pattern), architecture design (Clean Architecture layers, repository pattern, dependency injection), platform channel design for native integrations, and performance debugging with Flutter DevTools.

App Store/Play Store links and production references shared on request.

Managed Delivery with Flutter Quality Standards

Once you select a developer, we manage the engagement: weekly delivery reports, crash monitoring requirements (Firebase Crashlytics), widget test and integration test coverage, CI/CD pipeline setup support (Codemagic or Fastlane), and a dedicated account manager. You get a managed Flutter team with accountability -- not a contractor who vanishes after launch. Delivery also includes Flutter flavour configuration documentation (development, staging, production environments), Codemagic or Fastlane pipeline handover with all signing credentials, and a widget test coverage report confirming ≥70% coverage of all custom widgets.

14-day free replacement. Flat 15% fee.

Hiring Guide

How to Interview a Flutter Developer

Questions that reveal real Dart and Flutter depth. Widget quiz questions tell you nothing about architecture, performance, or platform integration skill.

Walk me through how you structure a Flutter feature using Bloc. Show me how a user login flow -- from button tap to authenticated state -- flows through your architecture.

Why this question

Tests Bloc architecture depth: LoginEvent sealed class design, LoginState (initial/loading/success/failure), BlocBuilder vs BlocListener vs BlocConsumer usage, repository injection via context.read(), and how the Bloc interacts with a use case or repository. Strong candidates draw the event flow without hesitation.

Red flag answer

I put my API call inside the Bloc and update a variable. No understanding of events, states, or layers.

Explain how Riverpod 2.x differs from version 1.x and describe the trade-offs between AsyncNotifierProvider, StreamProvider, and FutureProvider for fetching remote data.

Why this question

Tests Riverpod modernity: understanding of code generation with @riverpod annotation, Ref object replacing ProviderReference, AsyncNotifier for mutable async state vs FutureProvider for read-only futures, and StreamProvider for Firestore real-time streams. Weak candidates describe Riverpod 1.x patterns as if they are current.

Red flag answer

I use FutureProvider for everything. No awareness of Riverpod 2.x or when AsyncNotifierProvider is appropriate.

Your Flutter app's main feed screen is dropping frames to 40fps on a mid-range Android device. The screen shows a ListView of complex cards with images. Walk me through your debugging and optimisation process.

Why this question

Tests Flutter performance depth: Flutter DevTools timeline for frame analysis, widget rebuild profiling with the Widget Inspector, const widget promotion, RepaintBoundary to isolate expensive repaints, ListView.builder vs ListView (lazy loading), cached_network_image for image loading, and Dart Isolate for any data processing.

Red flag answer

I would reduce the number of widgets on screen. No profiling approach, no knowledge of DevTools.

Design a platform channel integration to read step count data from Apple HealthKit on iOS and Google Fit on Android in a Flutter app. What approach would you use?

Why this question

Tests platform channel depth: choice between MethodChannel (simpler, single calls) vs Pigeon/HostApi (type-safe, code-gen), writing Swift code for HealthKit HKStatisticsQuery, Kotlin code for Google Fit DataReadRequest, handling async results back to Dart, and error propagation across the channel boundary.

Red flag answer

I would find a pub.dev package. No ability to design or implement custom platform channels.

How would you implement offline-first data in a Flutter app where a user can create records while offline and sync them when connectivity is restored, handling conflict resolution?

Why this question

Tests offline architecture: local DB choice (Drift for relational, Hive/Isar for document), sync queue pattern (storing pending operations as events), connectivity_plus for network monitoring, Dart Isolate for background sync, and conflict resolution strategy (last-write-wins vs server-authoritative vs versioned).

Red flag answer

I would cache the last API response in shared_preferences. No understanding of sync architecture or conflict resolution.

Set up a Codemagic CI/CD pipeline for a Flutter app with three flavours (dev, staging, production) that builds for iOS and Android, runs tests, and automatically submits to TestFlight and Play Store internal track on main branch merges.

Why this question

Tests Flutter DevOps maturity: Codemagic YAML workflow configuration, Flutter flavor (flavour) setup with dart-define or .env, code signing with Codemagic's automatic signing, firebase_app_distribution or TestFlight for beta, Google Play API credentials for Play Store submission, and conditional branch triggering.

Red flag answer

I would build manually and upload to the stores. No CI/CD knowledge for Flutter.

6 Red Flags in Flutter Developer Interviews

Cannot explain their state management pattern

Uses Bloc or Riverpod but cannot draw the event/state flow or explain provider scoping. Widget knowledge without architecture knowledge is insufficient.

Has never shipped an app to the App Store or Play Store

Built demo and tutorial apps but has no production Flutter deployment experience. Production constraints (code signing, App Review, Play Store policies) require hands-on experience.

Uses setState everywhere at scale

setState is appropriate for isolated local state. Developers who use it for cross-widget and cross-screen state produce unmaintainable spaghetti Flutter code.

No Dart Isolate awareness

Runs CPU-intensive work on the main isolate, causing UI jank. Dart Isolate knowledge is essential for any Flutter app processing non-trivial data.

Cannot write a widget test

Never used testWidgets, WidgetTester, or pump/pumpAndSettle. Untested Flutter apps have unknown regression behaviour between releases.

Assumes pub.dev has a package for everything

Cannot design a custom platform channel or write native Swift/Kotlin code. Many production requirements need native integrations without an adequate pub.dev package.
